Application

For the application fill the following form.

The application is now OPEN. The deadline for applications is the 1st of May 2023.

You will notably be asked:

  • information about yourself (name, current occupation, and institution)
  • your motivations to participate in the Sejny Summer Institute.
  • the problem that you would like to investigate with other participants.

Your problem should be formulated as a question somehow related to the foundations of physics. Apart from physicists, we encourage the application of mathematicians, computer scientists, and philosophers who share a strong interest in physics. Ideally, the question should be broad enough to allow the contributions of other participants, but specific enough to enable concrete advances. Of course, you are not supposed to have already answered the question, but it should be at some stage of clarity so that you have an idea of how to proceed forward.

In case your application is successful, you will be asked to prepare:

  • a 15-min talk to motivate your problem to the other fellows of the Institute
  • a 1 or 2-hour mini-course/moderated discussion that expands your talk with more background and details, addressed to a reduced audience of the Institute

There are around eighteen places in the Sejny Summer Institute. If more applications are received, the selection of participants will be made by the organizers. The choice will be based on the answers to the application form, in accordance with the Statement of Inclusiveness below. In any case, your application will receive an answer roughly one week after the application deadline.

Feel free to contact us if you have any further questions: sejny.summer.institute@gmail.com.

We are looking forward to receiving your application!

Statement of Inclusiveness

We refuse to compromise the ideals of academic freedom and open exchange. We affirm that scientific events have to be open to everybody, regardless of class, financial situation, race, sex, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, pregnancy, immigration status, academic affiliation, or any other aspect of identity.

We believe that such events have to be supportive, inclusive, and safe environments for all participants. We believe that all participants are to be treated with dignity and respect. Discrimination and harassment cannot be tolerated. We are committed to ensuring that the scientific events in which we participate follow these principles, and we request that organizers of scientific events make explicit statements on the event website to that effect.

(This statement is part of a larger initiative among the scientific community which we invite you to discover here.)
